I love to dress up and go to an adult-only Christmas party, or dress in jeans and go with our whole family. Christmas parties just bring the holiday season alive for everyone.

One Christmas party I’ve never been to, but would love to attend, is an ugly sweater Christmas party. Whether you are hosting this party or just attending, the point is to come wearing the ugliest Christmas sweater possible. Some people spend hours making and decorating their own, while others simply buy them for the convenience. Others have them hanging in their closet because they wear them like normal sweaters(!)

If you have an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party to go to this year, here are a few sweaters you can grab quickly in order to have the best ugliest sweater at the party.

Seriously…how funny are these? It seems that some of the best involve characters from popular movies or memes. Some of these sweaters are actually just long sleeve shirts, which makes them perfect for those living in warmer climates (*raises hand).

If you are hosting the party, instead of just attending one, we’ve got some great ideas to make this the BEST party ever!

Send out great invitations!

You can totally rock the invitations by making them look like ugly sweaters, like these from Tiny Prints. Not only can you easily design them for a great price, they will match your party exactly. I love Tiny Prints because of how easy they are and how fast their turnaround time is! Click here to check out some of their other offerings!Ugly SweaterUgly Sweaterugly sweater

Decorate your home.

This shouldn’t honestly take much time if you’ve already decorated for Christmas. I mean, a tree and some lights are great decorations. If you want to take it a step further, add a few sweater-inspired pillows on your couch, like these.

Bring out the goodies.

Nothing says “Christmas Party” like a bunch of yummy snacks. Kristin over at Yellow Bliss Road has a great tutorial on how to set up a Hot Chocolate Bar, including a free printable. Set up a Cookie Decorating Station just like on Camille Styles. Your friends will love the time you took, and enjoy eating your delicious goodies.

Pass out awards for your party.

You can give out awards for “Ugliest Sweater” or “Best Cultural Reference”, “Most Likely to Get Arrested While Wearing” or “Best Couple”. If you want awards for your food stations, go with “Most Frosting on Your Cookies” or “Most Marshmallows in Your Hot Chocolate” awards. Get as creative as you can, and try to get everyone involved in the voting; the more the merrier! Catch My Party has some awesome free printable awards you can give to your guests; some are preprinted with award titles, but you can also print blank ones and fill them in with your own category.

The most important part of your party is that you (and everyone else!) have fun. Doing your planning ahead of time will help tremendously with that, so you aren’t stressed. So get your invitations ordered now, then start planning the rest of the party.

I’ve actually never been invited to one but perhaps I’ll plan my own. I think it’s one of those Christmas time bucket lists items that need to be checked off eventually.

I love the idea of awards! We have an ugly Christmas sweater day at the middle school that I work at. This year I just decided to get a cute tee because in south GA, you never know if we’ll be wearing sweaters or tshirts this time of year~

I might have to snag some of these ideas. I have an “ugly” sweater I bought last year and need more excuses to wear it 🙂

What a fun idea! You could add in ugly holiday socks, too. I’m definitely pinning this one for later!
