10 Awesome Thanksgiving Picture Books for Little Kids!

Thanksgiving Themed Picture Books For Little Kids

We love books at our house. Growing up, we went to the library at least once a week, and I’ve tried to carry that on with my own children. I like to get picture books for my kids that correspond to the different holidays, so we can read about, study and get in the mood for that holiday. I’ve pulled together 10 wonderful picture books for the Thanksgiving season that you can read to your littles at home. This is also a perfect school library list! Pick your favorite from this list, or get them all, they’re all wonderfully fun.

In this picture book, a turkey family is headed to a vegetarian Thanksgiving feast, when a boy and his dog start to chase them through the woods. It’s a race to the finish to determine who will have a yummy feast!

Turkeys in Squawk Valley are on to the townspeople; they no longer just jump right into the frying pan (err…oven). So the people have to get more clever than the turkeys to try to entice some to their Thanksgiving feast!

This picture book celebrates the meaning of friendship. The artwork really make this book special and memorable.

This picture book is so funny because a lot of kids can relate; two cousins try to escape the boredom of a long day at Grandma’s house but they keep getting blocked at every side! Will they make it out to the swing set in the back yard, or forever have to sit at the kid’s table?

This picture book isn’t just about Pilgrims and turkey, it’s about giving thanks for the friends and family in our lives.

In this Pete the Cat book, Pete participates in a school play all about the first Thanksgiving. With 11 lift-the-flap sections, little readers will love it!

This book follows a family the day before Thanksgiving as they make pies, welcome cousins and get ready for a fun holiday.

If your kids love watching the Macy’s parade, they will love this picture book. It tells the story of Tony Sarg, the first man to create the amazing helium balloons we still enjoy today!

This book also tells about the Macy’s parade, but focuses on the very first one created by immigrants who missed their homeland.

This picture book teaches counting backward from 10 as turkeys perform silly stunts. It also rhymes, so it’s super fun to read.

My twin 3 year olds can’t read either, but last night they immediately brought my husband “Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving” to read to them before bed. I like to leave out a basket of themed books when it’s a holiday.
