Make A Meal Plan Once A Week – Use A Free Printable

I used to think meal planning was a hassle; sitting down and having to think of seven meals, all at once? Who has time for that?

But then I had an epiphany. I think it was one day at about 4:45 pm while staring into my mostly empty pantry, wondering what I was going to make for dinner. Maybe this meal-planning thing isn’t such a bad idea? (I think we ended up with pizza that night.)Meal planning and menu planning is so much easier with this schedule!

So since then, I’ve really tried to keep on top of the meal planning stuff. I don’t typically plan out the whole month, because I don’t always know what’s going to be happening each night for the entire month. But I can do a week at a time. It usually takes me less than 10 minutes to plan out the week.

I don’t plan specific breakfasts and lunches. My kids are big enough to get their own breakfast; I just make sure we have cereal and milk, oatmeal, bagels and eggs available. After that, they’re on their own! (Well, the bigs anyway!) For lunch, we always have leftovers and sandwich and quesadilla stuff.

But dinner, that’s kind of on me. As the mom, it’s kind of my job, I guess.Use this free printable Weekly Menu planner to help keep track of meals.

I use a very basic printable to plan my meals. It’s so easy, that I’m sharing below in case you don’t have something. It’s very important that you WRITE DOWN YOUR MENU! Without writing it down, you’ll never remember what you planned. You think you’ll remember, but you won’t. I promise.

I’m actually including two downloads that are slightly different. One just has spaces for you to write the dinner menu down, while the other includes space for lunch and dinner ideas, as well as a shopping list.Use this free printable Weekly Menu planner to help keep track of meals.   Use this free printable Weekly Menu planner to help keep track of meals.

I have a printed copy in a plastic sheet protector on the fridge; I simply write on it each week with a dry erase marker.

If you’d like to grab your own copy of the menu planner, simply fill out the form below. You can then download the PDF and print it out for your own use.

In case you’re wondering what’s on our menu for this week, here’s a peak! We eat a lot of the same meals because I know what we like, I know how to fix it, and I know that these recipes won’t cost a ton of money. Five kids, including two very healthy boys, eat a lot!

We have collected a lot of stuff in the freezer, so I’ve taking a big break from a lot of our regular grocery shopping and just using up what we’ve got. Each Sunday, my husband and I pick out several different things to defrost and decide what we’ll eat for the week. We’ve saving a ton of money on groceries right now!
