Don't spend a fortune on Halloween goodies or candy this year!

Halloween Goodies DON’T Have to Cost a Fortune

Halloween wasn’t a huge deal for my family growing up. This was the time when many churches and local organizations were just starting to do Fall Festivals to combat the Trick’or Treating that usually took place. So my family did that a little bit, because we liked to get all the Halloween goodies!

But the real reason we didn’t do to much for Halloween was the fact that it was my Dad’s birthday. We did a family dinner, followed by cake, ice cream, and presents. But my parents still passed out candy when kids knocked on our door. Candy started to get pretty expensive after awhile, because we lived in a neighborhood where parents would come and drop their kids off to Trick’or Treat and get as many Halloween goodies as possible. You know what I’m talking about?

My parents didn’t begrudge this, but they needed to do something to bring the cost down. One day, while they were shopping, my Dad grabbed a box of Little Debbies. His favorites are the Star Crunches and Oatmeal Cream Pies. When he brought them home, all of us kids were like “We love those! Can we have one?”

It was a lightbulb moment for my dad. He decided then and there that he was going to pass out Little Debbies to kids on Halloween night. He bought six boxes of his two favorite kinds and put them in a big bowl. When kids knocked on the door, he allowed them to pick just one. The kids were a little confused, but they loved it! After the first couple of years, they knew to expect the cookie-cakes at our house.

When I got married and moved to my own house, my husband and I decided to do the same thing. After all, do kids really need one more house with the same candy? No. So what if it’s a little weird? It’s certainly yummy!

We typically buy 4-6 boxes, and have a good number left over at the end of the night. We don’t get a huge amount of foot traffic through the neighborhood we live in. This works out for us, because then I can pack the leftovers in lunch bags the rest of the week (Win!)

P.S. Another way we save money on Halloween to to purchase our costumes from! They have over 3,000 costumes and accessories discounted up 90%! Take a look at what they’ve got available now, before their best items sell out!

My kids like to make their own costumes, but this comes in really handy when they can’t decide until the last minute or I’m really too busy to help make costumes, like the time I was scheduled to induce my twins 3 days before Halloween! Believe me, costumes were the last thing on my mind! That’s when came in super handy!

yeah I like the idea of passing out one big fun treat instead of handfuls of candy. I’m litarally watching out money leave by the handfuls.
