Christmas gifts for grandparents

Christmas Gifts for Grandparents

My sister-in-law just had a baby (her first!) last week, and she’s been looking for a gift to give the new grandparents. Her parents don’t have any grandchildren until just now, so she’s pretty excited to get them something ‘from’ her baby. While it’s cutting it a little short before Christmas, there’s still plenty of time to get something delivered (because let’s be honest, she’s not up to going Christmas shopping with a five day old!) These gifts for grandparents will work whether it’s their first grandchild or not!

Photo Gifts

I think it’s an unwritten rule somewhere that all grandparents like photos of their grandchildren. My parents used to give my grandparents pictures in a frame of us kids, and that’s still an awesome idea, but nowadays there are so many other ways to showcase your child’s photo for your parents. I mean, when my sister, who lived in another state, had a baby, my parents pulled out their phones to show off pictures to their friends. If you personalize this iPhone case with photos of your new child, they don’t even need to pull up their photo app! You could also put pictures on a mug that they use every morning. My Father in Law has actually asked us for this every year; an updated photo mug. Sadly, I haven’t gotten it for him every year; I should get back on that because it’s so easy!

Decor

A gift of a house decoration, so everyone knows they’re grandparents now, is always welcome! This cute sign is small enough to put on the kitchen bar or entry-way table, and looks very nice! If there is more than one grandchild, this second picture would be great, with the dates of all the births on it. My parents have 10 grandchildren, though; with more of my siblings not having had children yet…we’d need a poster size!

Ornaments

An ornament for their first Christmas as grandparents is greatly appreciated at Christmas-time, as well. They are so cute, but you can also find them at local Christmas shops, where they can often be personalized with the names your child will call their grandparents.

Coffee Mugs

Get your parents a coffee mug that proclaims their new status as grandparents! These don’t have photos on it, but they’re cute all the same!

Books

This gift is perfect because picture books are the best things ever! Not only does it give a warm tug of nostalgia to read a picture book, they can read it through the years to their grandchild as he or she grows older! My favorite is Little Critter because I grew up reading him, but this second book is also a wonderful addition to the grandparents’ library!
